Yes... well... hello readers, if you still exist. I somehow managed to neglect this journal for far too long, but, then, I am easily distracted.
Anyway, I have photos from the Connecticon to share! Not so many as previous years, but I didn't spend as much time stalking cosplayers as I have in the past... and halfway through the con, I got my own table as an artist! The Artist Colony was booked when I tried to register before the con, but there were a few no-shows when I got there, so they gave me a table at a discount ^^ Met some wonderful people, said hi to some past buddies, all that jazz. very awesome.
So... pictures. Those can be found here!
I also continued my trend of commissioning every darn artist I could find to draw me a picture of Arra... missed a few, but did my best. It got a little confusing because some of the booths were relocated randomly. I'll be scanning and uploading the collection of commissions as soon as I get back home... currently stuck in Rhode Island on vacation doing... absolutely nothing really.
Finishing up my online summer course at SHU this week. It kinda ate up some of my summer, but it'll let me cut back on credits in the fall semester, which is good, since I've got two majorly time-devouring studio art classes in my upcoming schedule. Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester are going to be exercises in torture... But some of the material we've covered in this online philosophy course has been quite fascinating. I might post some of the essays I wrote for it here in the future... depending on how lazy I am.
Those of you who pay attention will notice I've got a new layout... not that I didn't like my old one, but it was time for a change, you know? Found this frog one on a free layout comm (which I have to re-locate later; my computer spazzed on me before I could save the link... 0.o'), decided it was cute, and thus what you see here.
Been doing a lot of drawing and painting, too. Hoping to get a little more done before the semester starts... after which I will be a slave to the assignments handed to me by college art courses.
That's all for now, but I'll try to get a few more posts in in the next few weeks.

Behold, reader, as Asuka gets involved with politics:
For you see, I am currently in my university's gymnasium, where Senator John McCain has decided to hold a campaign rally to boost support for his nomination as the Republican candidate for this year's Presidential election. Why he chose this university is beyond me, since there are bigger and better school in the area, but whatever. Also present are Senator Lieberman, who everyone seems to love, and Representative Shays... who my mother and father apparently met at some... random... even thing. Father seems to have met a lot of political dudes, actually. He still brags about the time he snubbed Senator Dodd when he appeared in his work building out of the blue one day (Dodd, you see, is a Democrat, and Father is a Republican... so... yeah). I don't ask. I have no opinion on the matter, except that it's a good conversational story.
In any case, my family is currently with me, and we're sitting in the bleachers, and my mother has just pitched a fit because some dimwit just pulled a curtain across our view and told us we should go stand. Mother, you see, is disabled and cannot stand.
So the conclusion is that the university event-managing people are total dumbasses. Anyway, we are now viewing a campaign rally through a translucent curtain-ey thing. Oh, well. Think I'm going to go start my history homework now. Gotta go read some chunk of Homer's Iliad or something.
....And now they moved the screen! Now people are visible... and stuff. Go figure.
But now the speaking-ness is starting and all, and I probably have to shut down my laptop (They already inspected it on the way in).
Perhaps I'll post further at the end, after I've heard Senator-dude's speech. Or maybe I'll just read that history stuff. Or something.
Later, all!

Ashley Monroe - "I Don't Want To" |

Hmmm. I just took a look at my LJ post calendar, and somehow I only managed 4 posts this month... I fail at life, I suppose. Seriously, though, how did I manage to not make a post for a good three weeks?
Ah, well, anyway.... *thinks* Hmmm. Yesterday was my birthday, though I completely forgot until my mother reminded me (yes, I know how pathetic that is)... I had to wake up at an obscenely early hour of the morning to make it to my almost-as-obscenely-early history class. The class itself is quite fascinating, actually; I'm just not a morning person. That was followed up by some errands and the like, then my communications (writing to speak) class... which terrifies me on the sole basis that I am a horrible public speaker. Also the professor will not allow me to cover up my terror with witty sarcasm, which is about my only strong point when it comes to speeches. -.-' woe is me.
Art classes, though, are all happy. Color theory is... colorful, of course - at the moment I seem to be painting a hawaiian tee-shirt - and computer design basics is an illustrator/photoshop course. My stack of things that need to be scanned and posted is slowly growing, and right now I'm making a pretty flying unicorn for Mimi (and for a contest on deviantART). She's still in that "I want a pony!" phase that all 12-year-olds seem to go through (except me; I was all like "Daddy, buy me a duck!!" I like ducks).
I'm leaving for the two aforementioned art classes in about an hour, actually.
....ANd now I ran out of things to say. Wow, I'm boring today. o.0'

Just got back from a charity jewelry auction.... they were selling a bunch of pieces made by the local high school jewelry class and all, for the benefit of poor starving Lakota Indian children. Of course, the end result was pretty much that all the parents bid on the things their kids made and those of us without children were at a loss... but at least it was entertaining. The auctioneer, a friend of my sister's was absolutely hilarious. Aside from his naturally brilliant sense of humor, he mispronounced... basically everything. ^^' Ah, poor Milo. I suppose, though, being male, he has very little reason to know important jewelery terms. Also, there was a reporter for the local paper there, and he snapped my picture when I wasn't paying attention... so now I might end up in the Courier. Probably front page, too, since absolutely nothing worth mentioning ever happens in this town... heck, the vast majority of police reports are summaries of car accidents involving deer. -.-'
Also met up with Julianne today; we went to the art supply store, where I bought a few things for next semester, and a few pieces of colored paper to try and draw on, sooner or later. Also got a presentation book for some of last semester's work. Then we ate lunch at some random Italian place... Julianne found a bug in her water... uhhh... we tried to straighten up the irreparable mess that is my room... life as usual, I suppose.
Started drawing penguins as a design for the card contest I mentioned in my last post - need to finish them up tonight or tomorrow, then scan, adjust digitally, and finally submit them. I'll post to DA, too, when that's all done. As for the dragons... still haven't taken care of the wax bloom, or the scanning and posting bit, but I'm progressing ever so slowly. ^^' I better get my butt on the move, though, if I want to create enough anime, fantasy, etc. art to be an artist at the Connecticon... I'm not going to have time once the spring semester starts!
Quite tired now. Shall attempt to work on penguins, but I may just conk out instead. Mother wants to take me to some lecturey workshoppy thing tomorrow, at ungodly hours of the morning, so I better get some rest... Ooble.

Hmmmm.... feeling exceptionally lazy right now. Just a thought.
Today I worked and... did a lot of nothing (told you, lazy!). So.... excluding today, here's what's happened as of late:
The fish are doing well enough. Shuu-kun and wife still have their angel wigglers, which will be free-swimming in a few hours (at which point I shall have to feed them...). The discus managed to hatch like, six wigglers, which over the pst two days have dwindled down to... three wigglers... which seem to be developing rather quickly. EVen thoughthey're two days newer than the angel fry, they almost look like they'll be swimming in the next twelve hours o.0' I've never read that discus develop faster than angels, but ho knows. Ah, well, at least I don't need to feed them - mom & dad have that covered!
Art-wise, have finished he dragon illustration; now I must leave t alone for two days so the wax can bloom, so that I can then remove it, so that I can then scan it and put it on deviantART for all to see. ^^' Started an illustration of Lance the parrot cichlid, but I may put that aside for the moment and try and enter a card-designing illustration contest for a scholarship, for which the deadline is in a week.
My silver wire is taking longer than I hoped to ship, so no new jewelery. I am, however, going to strangle my dear brother, because he got ahold of my jewelery pliers and decided to learn bout my jasper pendant... by taking it apart! Oh, dear brother, how greatly your antics and natural curiosity distress me...
Went on a hike in Aspetuck last Sunday. Took some pictures, one of which I have uploaded thus far, but I'm too lazy to post anything here. Go look at my deviantART account if you're interested. Ooble.
My mother volunteered me to make the invitations for my brother's boy scout troop party... [sarcasm]Thank you, mother.... as if I have nothing better to do with my time than put my art skills to use for a stupid pile of snotty brats. Marvelous.[/sarcasm]
Dang it, I'm tired... *sigh*
